Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Answers to common questions about the Irix Edge Gelatin Filter Set for Irix 11mm f/4 and 15mm f/2.4 still lenses.

1. What is included in the Irix Edge Gelatin Filter Set?
The set contains 15 rear gelatin ND filters: five ND4 filters, five ND8 filters and five ND16 filters.
2. How much light do the ND4, ND8 and ND16 filters reduce?
ND4 reduces light by 2 stops, ND8 by 3 stops and ND16 by 4 stops. Their optical densities are 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 respectively.
3. Which Irix lenses are compatible with these gelatin filters?
They are made for the rear filter slots in the Irix 11mm f/4 and 15mm f/2.4 still lenses, including the Blackstone and Firefly versions.
4. Where is the gelatin filter installed?
The filter slides into the rear filter slot of the lens. Each filter measures 29 x 29 mm and fits the 30 x 30 mm rear slot used by the compatible Irix lenses.
5. How thick are the filters?
Each filter is 0.1 mm thick. The 0.1 mm film is designed to fit the rear slot while leaving the front of the lens free for its normal accessory setup.
6. Why is a rear ND filter useful with the Irix 11mm f/4?
The Irix 11mm f/4 has no front filter thread, so a conventional screw-in filter cannot be attached directly. The rear slot provides a practical way to add ND filtration.
7. Can I use a rear ND filter and a front polarizer on the Irix 15mm f/2.4 at the same time?
Yes. Because the gelatin ND filter sits in the rear slot, the 95 mm front filter thread remains available for a compatible screw-in polarizer on the Irix 15mm f/2.4.
