Irix Edge Neutral Density filters (ND) are an essential tool for long exposure photography and depth of fields manipulation. They reduce light which that is passing through the lens by 3-stops (3EV) and helps creating astonishing and surreal images. Their additional waterproof and oil repellent NANO coating prevent from stains, fingerprints and enable using in extreme weather conditions. Their low-profile frames and knurled edges provide very good grip and functionality with aesthetic design which harmonizes with all Irix products.

Use fast lenses – without any limits The Irix Edge round Full-ND filter allows to achieve proper exposure when using fast prime lenses (such as the f/2 and faster) during the day. Sometimes even advanced or professional cameras don’t offer enough fast shutter speeds or lower ISO because there is too much light so we need to compensate it.

Dreamy landscapes – the motion-blur effectMost stunning landscape photographs has been taken with this technique – it allows us to add some motion and uniqueness in landscape photography. Don’t forget to take stable tripod with you! This technique is based on long shutter speeds to blur all those objects that move in the frame such as clouds, people, water, and so on. This technique introduces some movement into the static landscape thus create surreal effect which human eye can’t see.

Make Your video more cinematic Have you ever wonder about why the cinema movie is so different from popular films that we can register on our smartphones? It’s mainly because of the slower shutter speeds that have been used during the filmmaking so any movement seems to be more pleasant and natural. The Irix Edge Full-ND filter reduce the amount of light so you’re able to use proper exposure time to achieve eye-catching film look on your movies.

Pure technology just for you Irix Edge Neutral Density filters (ND) are an essential tool for long exposure photography and depth of field manipulation. They reduce the light that is passing through the lens by a specific value and helps creating astonishing and surreal images. Their additional waterproof and oil repellent NANO coating prevent from stains, fingerprints and enable using in extreme weather conditions. Their low-profile frames and knurled edges provide very good grip and functionality with aesthetic design which harmonizes with all Irix products.

Each of Irix Edge filters are sold in an aesthetic and functional case that provides adequate protection both during storage and transportation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Find practical information about fit, 3-stop light reduction, exposure control and use of the Irix Edge ND8 52mm neutral density filter.

1. What is the Irix Edge ND8 52mm neutral density filter used for?
It reduces the amount of light entering the lens by 3 stops (3 EV). This gives photographers and filmmakers more control over shutter speed, aperture and exposure in bright conditions.
2. What does ND8 mean?
ND8 identifies this filter's fixed density and corresponds to a 3-stop reduction in light. Exposure must be compensated by 3 stops using shutter speed, aperture, ISO or a combination of these settings.
3. Which lenses are compatible with the 52mm version?
The filter screws onto a lens with a 52mm front filter thread. Check the diameter marking on the lens or its cap before ordering; camera mount and focal length do not determine filter size.
4. When should I choose a ND8 filter?
Choose ND8 for moderate exposure control in bright conditions, including wider apertures and slightly longer shutter speeds. The final exposure time still depends on the available light, ISO, aperture and starting shutter speed.
5. Can this filter be used for video?
Yes. Its fixed 3-stop reduction can help maintain the chosen shutter speed and aperture in bright conditions. Because the density is fixed, exposure changes require camera-setting adjustments or a different filter strength.
6. Does the filter change image colour?
The Full-ND design is intended to reduce light while maintaining natural colour reproduction. For colour-critical work, use a consistent white-balance workflow and check the result under the actual lighting conditions.
7. What coatings and frame does the filter use?
It has water- and oil-repellent NANO surface protection to reduce stains and fingerprints, plus a low-profile frame with knurled edges for grip. The coating does not make the lens or camera waterproof.
8. Is this a fixed or variable ND filter, and is a case included?
This is a fixed ND8 filter with one 3-stop light-reduction value; rotating it does not change the density. A protective case is included for storage and transport.
